Fascinating to see Indian smooth coated otters (2 families- one of 7 individuals & other of 8 individuals)at Talacaud, Cauvery river, Karnataka, India.
A wonderful top predator of fresh rivers & streams, they feed on fishes, crabs, frogs, snakes and lot of small animals. These Otters are classified as endangered due to poaching, loss & destruction of wetlands, converted settlements, pollution of rivers due to pesticides & hydroelectric projects.
Survival of this magnificent animal depends on protecting the wetlands, rivers and minimising pesticide use.
