International Bird race (Tawao) and Borneo rain forest Malaysia- 7th -13th June 2024
“Colors of Rainforest”
Recent trip to Malaysia was more than just OMG😱.
Participated in Bird race at Fraser hill and then went to rain forest of Borneo.
The entire region from our north eastern states of Sikkim & Arunachal Pradesh, Bangladesh, Myanmar till Malaysia & western Indonesia is known as Sundaland- a biogeographical region of Southeast Asia corresponding to a larger landmass that was exposed throughout the last 2.6 million years during periods when sea levels were lower.
This region shares lot’s of similarities in climate, type of forest and unique biodiversity.
Had the opportunity to sight, observe and document some of the most beautiful & colorful birds (over 100 species sighted some endemic to Borneo), insects and animals.
Sharing few of the magnificent creations of God for everyone to appreciate and enjoy.
“Borneo python”
An endemic species found only in the rain forest of Borneo, small but muscular built gives it an edge in the forest to hide and ambush it’s prey.
We just managed to spot it through our excellent expert Shavez and helped it to cross the road.
Rapid deforestation and plantation for palm oil is driving all the beautiful animals and other biodiversity towards extinction.
The beautiful rainforest of Tawau, Borneo have plenty of hidden gems like this giant Shorea Faguetiana tree standing at 88.30mtrs.
For many centuries it has stood silently and provided habitat to innumerable birds, animals and insects. It would have absorbed tons and tons of carbon, produced tons of oxygen and helped regulate carbon, water and nutrition cycles and enriching the soil of this forest.
We still haven’t realised the ecological and economical services and values of such living legends in our forests.
When we compare our size and lives ,we feel tiny and negligent creatures boasting about our destructive capacities and being opportunistic defending it as our rights.
We have been only taking and utilising everything from nature but would have hardly given back anything to fulfill our responsibilities towards all.
Do you still feel bigger and powerful in front of this tree or just another tiny, ordinary creature?
What have we given back to nature which supports us for every breath of life?
