Bhigwan wetlands – part 1
This is a series of post coming up on our recent birding trip to this wonderland called Bhigwan bird sanctuary near Pune.
Along with our super special guide @bapukewate . His spotting power is like binoculars and his knowledge of the area is outstanding.
Spread over 350 sq.km this amazing place is a haven for migrating winter visitors from far off corners of the world including Europe, North America, Mongolia & Africa.
These birds take the risk of long journeys to search and forage for greener pastures and survive another season of tough weather conditions in their regions.
The Bhigwan wetlands has one of the best landscapes surrounded by grasslands, scrubland and plateau.
This gives an excellent opportunity not only to photograph these birds but also to watch their natural behaviour and feeding habits (foraging) up close. The whole migration of predators and prey can be witnessed.
Greater Flamingo, Greater spotted Eagle, Osprey, Marsh Harrier, Bar headed Geese( highest flying birds), Caspian tern with brown headed Gulls, Western reef Heron, Ruddy Shell duck, Pied Avocet, Black winged Stilts, White Stork(critically endangered).
