Kalkere Arboretum weekend trail
A weekend trail for families was organised to create awareness about conservation, discuss sustainable lifestyle and develop passion for outdoors.
Kids, parents & grandparents from age 5-60+ participated with great enthusiasm in the trail. Children were exposed to basics of bird watching and their role in ecosystem. We collected variety of seeds and tried to understand different ways of dispersal.
The beautiful dragonflies who are known as bio pest controllers for their amazing apetite and feeding on small insects and mosquitos ( 3-4k per day) and helping to keep the environment clean and clear of pests.
Children were delighted to observe birds and insects in their natural habitat and understand their inter dependencies as part of food chain/ food web. They even tried tree climbing and testing strength of the Lianas (The woody climbers). This helps children to develop connect with trees and nature.
The thrilling moment was spotting of a snake moult (skin) and sighting of beautiful butterflies like Common Wanderer, Blue Mormon, common Sailor, Great Orange tip, Lemon Pansy and more.
The Surprise sighting of Grey Jungle fowls and wild boars so close to the city was exciting for the children and adults.
A black kite and Shikra hovering in search of their prey (Rodents, lizards, snakes)
